I love a bargain as much as the next person but, with the temptations offered on Black Friday, it can be easy to go overboard. So, what tips should be kept in mind in order to ensure that we spend sensibly?
- Plan what you’re going to buy – personally, I like to make a list before I go shopping to keep me on track but, even if you don’t put it down on paper, it’s a good idea to have in mind what you’re going to buy so that you don’t make any impulse purchases that you’ll later regret.
- Stick to a budget – similar to the tip above, it’s a good idea to create a budget before you hit the shops. This will also ensure the impulse buys are limited and that you avoid any buyer’s remorse.
- Compare discounts – to help your budget go a bit further, it can be helpful to compare prices at different retailers. This is especially true for more expensive items such as laptops or cameras.
- Try to avoid spending on credit cards – credit and store cards can charge high interest rates and you can save money buying with cash. However, if you do choose to purchase with credit look for the best deals and cards that charge the lowest interest rates.
One in three shoppers is expected to hit the shops this ‘Black Friday’ in the hope of snapping up a bargain.
